Our Trip to the Big Island

In February my husband and I got to run away and play. This year we will have been married for 20 years. Yes, it is true! Hard to believe it has been that long, but it is true! We decided to celebrate early with a trip to Hawaii with our friends who were also married in the summer of 1992. We no longer live close to each other and it has been a good many years since we got to just hang out and play, so it was fabulous to be able to do that! They are both incredible people and I am so blessed to have friends like them. Just wish we still lived close, but life changes and brings new adventures. Lucky for them... they live where it is warm :).

Well, I did want to share a few pictures that I took while in Hawaii. I have to say, I wasn't so sure about going to the big island, but I LOVED it! It is a big island too. So many things to do. The snorkeling was incredible! We saw spotted eagle rays, eel, dolphins, turtles (no shortage of turtles to see), lots and lots of fish, I am sure there is more, but I can't recall right now. It was so wonderful! We also went on a night dive/snorkel trip (we snorkeled, our friends dove) to see the manta rays. WOW! It was just more than you can imagine! They are large and they come close, but it was so, so incredible! I recommend it to everyone! Apparently it is on the 'top ten things to do before you die' list. I must agree! They refer to it as the manta ray dance and it is so much like that! They are so graceful and glade so slowly around you, coming so close without touching and they loop around and around.

On this island they have white sand (although with a bit of black in it), black sand both peppered with white and black-black sand and green sand, yes I said green! It isn't super green as it is also peppered with black sand (too much lava on this island not to have some black in the sand) but it is definitely green! A bit tricky to get to it but to say you have been to a green sand beach... so worth it! Anyway, I highly recommend the big island, unless you just want to sit on the beach, then maybe a different location would be better, not that you can't find great places to go and sit, but there is just too many interesting things to do on this island to sit everyday!
